Galaxy Slime

Have you noticed that many stores have a “slime section” lately? Whether it’s labeled as such or not, craft stores and grocery stores alike usually have a shelf or display filled with glue, glitter, and even activators like contact solution and liquid starch!

On one of our most recent Target trips, we couldn’t resist stocking up on all kinds of glitter glues and sequins. We’ve been using them for lots of different slime recipes!

My choice was black glitter glue because I knew it would be just perfect to make Midnight Galaxy Slime!

What is Galaxy Slime?

Galaxy Slime is sort of a catch-all term for slime recipes that remind you of outer space. Deep blues, purples, and even black colored slimes set the stage of the night sky, then are mixed with sparkling glitter and sequins to resemble stars.

There’s no “right” way to make Galaxy Slime – but some recipes are more complicated than others.

For our Galaxy Slime, we use a simple 2-ingredient slime recipe base, then added our glittery mix-ins. Since we used black glue as our base, we labeled it “midnight” slime.

The pictures don’t even do it justice – this slime is gorgeous!

Once our Galaxy Slime was ready, we added a batch of our Glow in the Dark Slime so it wouldreallylight up!

What are the Ingredients for Galaxy Slime?

• 1 (6oz) bottle of black glitter glue
• 1/3 cup liquid starch
• Glitter & sequins, optional

What are the three steps to make slime?

Every glue-based slime recipe has three basic steps:

1. Pour glue into a mixing bowl. If using white glue, this is where you’d add food coloring. If using a glitter or colored glue, you likely won’t need any additional dyes.
2. Add your activator. In this particular recipe, we used liquid starch because it’s super easy and one simple ingredient! You might also see baking soda + contact lens solution used as a slime activator.
3. Mix! If using any sequins or glitter (like in our space slime) you’d add them here.

How to Make Galactic Glitter Slime

The first step is to make a batch of liquid starch slime using black glitter glue. See below:

TIP: Skip the generic brands of glue and stick to name brands. We find that generic glue formulas don’t usually work as well (or at all).

Once you’ve whipped up your black glitter slime, you’ll notice that it has kind of a purple color too it, like you’d imagine deep space to be! Then you can add in more glitter or sequins to complete your sparkly galactic space slime!

The black glue has silver glitter and when the light hits it, looks like purple glitter too! Then we added purple, teal, and silver sequins to get the perfect color scheme.

To get that super cool glowing effect, we also made a batch of our Glow in the Dark Slime and mixed the two together! You can make this glow in the dark slime with Elmer’s Magical Liquid or with the liquid starch recipe here.

How to Store Your Slime

Store your galaxy slime in an airtight container or plastic zipper bag. If slime sticks to bag when you’re trying to get it out again, simply add a little liquid starch to release the slime from the sides of the bag.

To make your slime last longer, wash hands before playing to prevent as much contamination as possible and return to airtight container immediately after play.

Is Galaxy Slime Toxic?

Slime is lots of fun and a wonderful sensory experience for kids! However, it’s important to make sure to follow all slime safety recommendations:

• This slime is not edible. Please do not taste or eat.
• Always supervise children when making and playing with any slime recipe.
• As with many slime recipes, this contact solution slime involves a chemical reaction. Some ingredients may cause irritation to sensitive skin. Always wash hands thoroughly after play.
