Ingredients

  • MARASCHINO CHERRY BARS shopping list
  • Crust: shopping list
  • 2 cups flour shopping list
  • 1/3 cup sugar shopping list
  • 3/4 cup butter (or marg.), softened shopping list
  • Filling: shopping list
  • 2 eggs, slightly beaten shopping list
  • 1 cup firmly packed brown sugar shopping list
  • 1/3 cup flour shopping list
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder shopping list
  • 1/2 tsp. salt shopping list
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla shopping list
  • 10-oz. jar maraschino cherries, drained/chopped (reserve juice) shopping list
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts shopping list
  • Frosting: shopping list
  • 2 Tbsp. butter (or marg.), softened shopping list
  • 2 1/2 cups powdered sugar shopping list
  • 3 to 4 Tbsp. reserved cherry juice shopping list
  • 3 to 4 Tbsp. flaked coconut shopping list

How to make it

  • Heat oven to 350 degrees. In large bowl, combine first 3
  • ingredients; blend until crumbly. Press mixture into ungreased 13x9-
  • inch pan.
  • Bake at 350 for 12 to 15 minutes or until lightly browned.
  • In small bowl, combine all filling ingredients; mix well. Pour over
  • crust. Bake at 350 for 20 to 25 minutes or until toothpick inserted
  • in center comes out clean. Cool.
  • In small bowl, combine all frosting ingredients except coconut; beat
  • until light and fluffy. Spread frosting over cooled bars; sprinkle
  • with coconut. Cut into 36 bars.

    I made these (photo posted) yesterday and they are so delicious!! I find almond goes lovely with cherry so added 1/4 tsp almond extract to the filling as well as 1/4 tsp almond extract and a 1/4 tsp vanilla to the frostiing. Also chopped up about 10 cherries and added to the frosting for extra cherry-ness :)
